“When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time” – Maya Angelou
Embracing this truth challenges some of my tired, unproductive ‘stories’… They’re just busy, not ignoring me. They’re insecure, not bullies. They’re blinded by ambitions, not self-serving. They’re afraid, not disloyal. And so on…
I am guilty – of wanting to look past peoples outside behavior, empathize, and believe in what I interpret to be the goodness inside. Or maybe unpack, understand their story, why?
In a conversation this week though, an aha, is it time for me to give the simplicity and reality of this quote more consideration? Sometimes, people aren’t who I give them the chance to be or hope they are or deny they could be or claim I know, but actually who they show me. (positive or negative)
Learning to meet, first myself, and then others where they are, what difference might it make for letting go, letting all be, focusing on present, finding my legend – dad offered, something “bigger and better” awaits!
Hmmm, is still a rose…day 42!
Thank you if you choose to join the journey. Let's hope it is more fun than tears!
