365 Letters to Myself

August 18th, Do not make assumptions...

Life changing book for me The Four Agreements – I have adopted each of the agreements at various times, as relevant. They are simple, effective, have made an incredible difference to me and how I am able to live life. Perhaps though some more difficult than others to practice and “I do not make assumptions” is a tough one for me day in day out. I find myself, too often, catching myself – which I did again this morning. Ugh! It is so disheartening. I am not one to be overly judgmental (particularly as a Life Coach), like to believe empathy is a strength, but when it comes to my kids, my mom (but not others) – the ugly assuming creeps up. I rationalize, it’s because of the mother instinct with my sons, or the familiarity of relationship with mom. However, that should not be a pass. It’s probably 50/50 odds in the accurate, assuming outcome when I slip with them.

How do I stop this? I would like to conquer this once and for all. It doesn’t matter if 5,6,7 out of 10 times I am successful – I aspire to be 10 for 10! It would be truer to my faith, my values. It is honestly more respectful and perhaps a greater act of trust, demonstration of love and faith in them. The cliché still applies, when you assume, you make an ass out of you and me…eating humble pie, beating myself up – time to embrace the opportunity for change.

Hmmm, it is disrespectful…day 36!

Thank you if you choose to join the journey. Let's hope it is more fun than tears!
