365 Letters to Myself

September 25th, Family dinners...

One of my favorite things in life is family dinners! Ever since I was a child, they were meaningful to me. Sunday was the day dad was home, as the restaurant was closed (the only job we knew he had at time). For a while, him and I would test new recipes, cook together. I tried to make dinners important for my kids while growing up, especially having one on Sunday. We’d invite dad and mom-I can still see dad hanging out on the couch watching sports, happy to be with his grandsons!

As my kids have grown and in their own homes, we were really good about having family dinners every other week, until the last couple years of craziness. Now we may be lucky to do so once a month. Always though, I make it happen for a birthday, which tonight was. My husband turned 65 this week and we all gathered for dinner tonight. I enjoy them for the interaction. I like seeing my boys talking with each other. I like everyone gathered in our home. We could be better at sitting down at the dining table and perhaps more engaged conversation, listening to one another but I am forever grateful that we are simply with each other for these couple hours. Good food, good people. May the tradition get back on track and always be valued, honored, a fond memory for all!

Hmmm, important tradition…day 71!

Thank you if you choose to join the journey. Let's hope it is more fun than tears!
