April 19th - She's back...
My granddaughter did it! The 2-night camp was successful.
I, her parents, and grandpa, made it through the last couple of days too. As we wondered and waited – not receiving much information on how it was going for Shay the last few days at school camp or calls home at night as we wondered if would happen – she was having an adventure that can be claimed as her OWN.
Mom picked her up from school this afternoon. As I worked in my room, I was happy to hear her footsteps coming right up the stairs after coming in the door. (Because I planned to give her space) Of course, she peeked in for grandpa first, and noticing he wasn’t there, was ok coming in and getting a hug, letting me ask her how the experience was and telling me a few highlights… the food, the hiking in the rain – tried to pry out bedtime details.
As I was thinking she might, she looks ever so slightly ‘older’ and ‘wiser’. Concerns can be put aside, and a victory celebrated! She proved to herself and us that she is growing up! I complemented what bravery and shared how proud I am.
When you have something to prove, prove it!
Hmmm, and growing up…day 259!
Thank you if you choose to join the journey. Let's hope it is more fun than tears!
