365 Letters to Myself

April 1st - Just a kid...

My 7-year-old granddaughter offered the classic line today, “I can’t help it if I am just a kid”, as a response to me requesting she and a friend stop running around the house and yelling.

Perfect. She was doing what kids do, and in the absence of ‘managing’ her/their playtime, the result is bursts of (pent up) energy and goofiness. How great would it be, as an adult, to be able to let off steam like this?!

Ironically, her line was reminiscent of a treasured poem my son wrote for me in grade school (at a similar age), Just a Kid, I believe was a Mother’s Day gift. I love the simplicity of being reminded what it is supposed to be like for a kid and as much as possible (and I remember in the moment), I try to let kids be kids and look on with fascination, perhaps a bit of envy.

Let kids, be kids and keep the spirit within to draw upon sometimes.

Hmmm, so few days …day 241!

Thank you if you choose to join the journey. Let's hope it is more fun than tears!
