365 Letters to Myself

December 22nd, Last minute...

The last couple of days have been an exercise in leaving my holiday shopping to the last minute. A practice I started awhile ago. Once the pressure was off for those elusive Santa gifts, I started a tradition to enjoy the season, not make it about the shopping, picked a day that last week, went to a ‘shop local’ neighborhood (balanced with a bit of online) and knocked it all out. It was working! A nice day with myself, my thoughts, my focus for about 4-6 hours.

This year, the smooth sailing, experienced a few waves…an out-of-town meeting, extreme winter weather, MY lack of planning. BUT – I am steps away from the finish line and will once again be done the day before Christmas Eve, achieving my goal. Though the one year I did shop on Christmas Eve was a fun experience and experiment in people watching and chatting with store clerks. Desperate people willing to buy anything.

I did feel, for a moment, a creeping in of the last minute ‘anxiety’ – “Will I get it done?” It has passed, shifted my mind-set to, “I got this” and time after time as I went about my day, “all was working out”…the pair of sweats appear in the right size, my glove idea-last pair, store credit applied to sale, and so on.

A great day honoring a tradition with my son yesterday, a successful power closing it today…last minute success, again.

Where there is faith, there is calm.

Hmmm, a mindset…day 157!

Thank you if you choose to join the journey. Let's hope it is more fun than tears!
