October 5th, Legal birthday...
Today is the ‘legal’ birthday of one of my nephews. It reminds me of mine. I didn’t have plans, or anyone to celebrate it with. So, my sober dad and I did together! He took me to a few different bars/night clubs and ordered me drinks…mostly vodka, remembering the gimlets. It is a fond memory and a little strange. I will admit. I often wondered what he was thinking…being a recovering alcoholic. Was it a sacrifice so I felt like someone cared? Was it a taste of a flashback to his ‘glory’ days? I don’t recall overindulging, so it was relatively innocent, respectful, in good taste. Thanks dad, love you!
I don’t know how my nephew plans to celebrate. I haven’t been a part of his life for years now, unfortunate family drama. Though I did send wishes, and he shared appreciation. May he have fun, be safe. Milestones are milestones, a coin with 2 sides…sometimes, be careful what we call.
