365 Letters to Myself

Social Media

What a suck hole social media has become for me. On a personal level, I find myself engaged with primarily X, Instagram and LinkedIn. As I choose to scroll through my feeds, I consider myself to be obtaining information about current events, connecting with networks, and helpful tidbits. It’s easy to develop a relationship with those showing up consistently – who do I trust for the most accurate perspective, who is accomplishing what, who provides tips to incorporate into my 'best' living. As more hours than I care to consider slip away, haven’t I become more knowledgeable?

The good is I am more ‘up to date’ on what is ‘news’, key happenings, latest hacks, depending upon which platform. The bad is how much I tell myself only 10 minutes to be pushing an hour (plus) as the new cutoff time. The ugly is sifting through what is truth and how people, their motives sometimes show up. It can be sad (but also rewarding) how humanity exposes itself.

At this point, I have yet to break the habit or adopt a better way of navigating what doesn’t make sense to totally eliminate from life. Social Media is in some ways a ‘necessary evil’ and obviously our challenge is how to ‘live’ with it in a productive and healthy way.

Hmmm, the good, the bad, the ugly... 313!
