April 17th - Off to camp...
What, first graders at the Montessori are included in a 2 night overnight camp?! This seems age inappropriate and risky, doesn’t it? As we asked one parent, person after another – too early for such an activity. What are they thinking?!
My 7-year-old granddaughter is heading off on a ‘school’ field trip – 3 days and 2-night camp, 2 ½ hours away. The anxiety real. She is quite attached to her parents. She has never been to a sleepover. All the what ifs – can’t fall asleep, wake up in the middle of the night, lose her lovely, teasing, accidents, and so on. At first, she herself was hesitant. But then I noticed the excitement and desire to do what everyone else was building. It became obviously important, she had to go.
So, with encouragement, a hug and kiss on the head, a reminder that ‘she can do it, she is brave and her will strong’, as she was cautiously nervous but ready to go. Grandma hopes you have a wonderful time, and lots of prayers within me all will go well.
Do not fear the milestones that shape and change us.
