365 Letters to Myself

November 28th, Leftovers...

Always a leftover ‘queen’, there’s something about Thanksgiving that takes me to a whole new level. In fact, if it wasn’t my desire for the meal’s leftovers, would I have ever started hosting it?

Growing up – our tradition was to go to ‘the club’. When I was voicing my dissatisfaction, as an adult in my early 20’s, I was called out – “if you don’t like it, then cook yourself.” So, I did. Got a big roaster from chef, as our apartment oven was tiny – and though, I do not remember much else from that first one, no more going back – it was my holiday to host from here out.

Now it is an all day, all weekend (or week) event. We HAVE leftovers and they are what we all look forward to more than the full meal. Turkey/cranberry sandwiches, pumpkin pie for breakfast, turkey gravy/mashed potatoes, turkey soup, snack on spinach dip and stuffing with gravy… it doesn’t get old for me, 5 days and counting. Of course, this is the only time of the year we have this meal, and its continuous bounty. Pretty close to wrapping up this year’s goodies, mixed emotions.

Hmmm, just get better…day 135!

Thank you if you choose to join the journey. Let's hope it is more fun than tears!
