365 Letters to Myself

September 19th, Be yourself...

I posted the Oscar Wilde quote “Be yourself; everyone else is already taken” quote on social media today as a reminder. Not because I find it relatable to myself…I tend to go more against the grain, and I am not really a follower or star struck. It triggers me because part of my ‘storytelling’ is it’s happened to me. At least that is how my mom has seen it and said it many times, “If only your sister spent as much time being herself, as she does trying to be you…”

One could say – she finally achieved being me, perhaps I should be complimented? How else should I describe having basically my life ‘taken’ from me – one she now conveniently lives, job role, career future, stolen relationships. We are blessed to be unique with our own gifts and those gifts are meant to be shared, lived. How we rob ourselves and others when we can only muster attempting to be someone else. When we continuously think we should emulate another any integrity is lost and even more when it comes time, which it will, to have to be yourself – sadly, do you know who that is?

This quote, a great reminder if nothing else than to respect yourself, enough to be yourself.

Hmmm, there's only one you…day 66!

Thank you if you choose to join the journey. Let's hope it is more fun than tears!
